How to Do Tricks on a Techdeck

    • 1). Learn to ride. Keep it simple to begin with until you feel comfortable with the basic "riding" position. Place you middle finger on the raised lip at the rear of the deck, and your index finger slightly ahead of the center. Push your index finger forward or backward to carve, or push down on the tail and lift your index finger to enable you to make sharp turns.

    • 2). Start in the basic riding position and push down agressively with your middle finger onto the raised lip at the rear of the deck. Simultaneously, raise your middle finger and slide it to the front of the deck to level out the Tech Deck while in flight. Keep contact with the board throughout to touch down safely. This basic trick is known as an "ollie."

    • 3). Perform a 180 "shove-it." Start as you would for an olie. As you slide your index finger to the front of the board, kick it forward slightly too to spin the front of the deck away from you. Relax your fingers from the surface of the deck to allow it to spin. Once it has spun 180 degrees, or half a full spin, replace your fingers and push down to land.

    • 4). Perform a "kickflip." Again, begin as if this were an ollie. Once air-bound, kick your index finger toward the front of the deck and down, clipping the bottom corner of the raised lip at the front of the deck. This time, the Tech Deck should revolve on the horizontal access. Relax the fingers and allow the board to spin upside down. Once it has spun a full revolution, replace the fingers and land.

    • 5). Perform grinds. The aim here, is to "grind" along an object without using the wheels -- riding on the trucks or underside of the deck. Approach an object with a right-angled edge and ollie onto it. Land with both trucks riding along this edge to perform a "50-50." To perform a "boardslide," approach and ollie onto the same object, rotating 90 degrees before landing so the central underside of the deck lands on the edge. Ollie again to dismount.
