Fun Places for a Birthday in NYC

    Theme Restaurants

    • The Ninja New York Club (ninjanewyork.com) hosts parties in a ninja castle setting from Japan's feudal era. Two of the club's dining rooms, the Village and Rock Garden dining rooms, are available for private birthday parties of up to 32 guests; Ninja Club has a two-hour all-you-can-drink special.

Located in Midtown Manhattan, the Mars 2112 (mars2112.com) restaurant is a futuristic, Martian-themed dining establishment. The restaurant's all-inclusive birthday packages include meeting Martian characters and balloon decorations. A minimum of 15 children is required for parties at Mars 2112.

Up to 300 guests may attend a birthday party at the Jekyll and Hyde Restaurant (jekyllpub.com) in Greenwich Village. This restaurant features horror-style décor.

    Jazz Clubs

    • New York City is littered with jazz clubs, which are nightspots with live jazz music. Located in Greenwich Village, the Blue Note Club (bluenotejazz.com) hosts live music concerts, ranging from local jazz musicians to renowned rock 'n roll artists.

Live jazz music is also available in Midtown Manhattan at the Birdland Jazz Club (birdlandjazz.com). Birthday parties may reserve tables at both these venues; both the Blue Note and Birdland also have gift shops in case you need to purchase something for the birthday guest. West Village's Fat Cat jazz club is able to accommodate parties of up to 300. Parties may bring their own food to Fat Cat (fatcatmusic.org), but are also responsible for cleanup at their table.

    Amusement Areas

    • Coney Island (coneyisland.com) is an amusement park on the shores of Long Island Sound in the Brooklyn borough. The first ride on Coney Island, a carousel, was built in 1876. Adults over 21 may attend Coney Island's "Burlesque at the Beach," which features the "Old Skool Burlesque and Vaudeville" show during the summer. Birthday parties of all ages have access to the Coney Island Circus Sideshow, a show with circus acts and pyrotechnic displays.

In Manhattan, Victorian Gardens (victoriangardensnyc.com) in Central Park is a kid-friendly amusement park. For parties, the gardens offers a private tent for up to 70 guests; catering is available at the tent.

    Museums

    • The Museum of Modern Art (moma.org) in Midtown Mahattan, or MOMA, offers guided tours for birthday parties. MOMA features contemporary art -- art pieces created no earlier than the 20th century. Up to 25 guests may take advantage of this package. No discounts are given to the birthday guest and groups may tour the museum without a guide. Guide tours are also available for birthday party guests at the American Museum of Natural History (amnh.org), located in Central Park West. This museum features dinosaur fossils and meteorite rocks.
