How to Plumb a Tee Into an Installed PVC Pipe

    • 1). Locate the shut-off valve that feeds water to the PVC pipe receiving the tee and turn it off. If possible, open the faucet valve at the end of the pipe to relieve water pressure.

    • 2). Mark the existing PVC pipe in the desired location for the tee and cut it with a PVC pipe cutter. Clean away burrs created on the edges of the cut pipe with a piece of 100-grit sandpaper.

    • 3). Apply PVC primer to one of the freshly cut ends of the pipe. Apply glue to the same end and slip the tee over the end of the pipe giving it a slight twist. Be certain the tee seats all the way onto the pipe.

    • 4). Apply PVC primer to the remaining cut pipe followed by the PVC glue. Slip the pipe into the tee and twist it slightly. Be certain to seat the pipe all the way into the tee. Allow the glue to harden.

    • 5). Measure and cut the new pipe for the third opening in the tee and apply PVC primer to the end. Apply glue and insert it into the remaining opening of the tee with a slight twist. Be certain it seats all the way into the tee. Turn on the water and check for leaks.
