How to Replace a Power Steering Pump Pulley

    • 1). Remove the negative (-) battery cable for safety when working on a vehicle. You can use the pliers to loosen the nut and slide the cable off of the terminal.

    • 2). Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump pulley by rotating the pulley to increase slack. Let the belt hang away from the pulley.

    • 3). Use the socket wrench to remove the mounting bolts from the power steering pump pulley. Most vehicles have three bolts to remove.

    • 4). Install the new pump in its place. Tighten the bolts. Reattach the drive belt around the pulley. Start the engine and make sure it is operating correctly.
